Yes, calories are lost, but that doesn’t mean you keep stuffing your tummy. The whole purpose of eating at trek is to remain active and energetic and not to fill your appetite. There are many hiking places and you need to decide as per your time and schedule. The second important thing is to carry all the necessary itineraries required while hiking. And now, you must think about your food’s does and don’ts. The following are some of the tips on food while hiking:

Breakfast

Yes, breakfast is an important meal of the day. Be it a normal day or a trekking day; do not skip your breakfast. Eat heavy breakfast. Avoid oily stuff. Stay away from early morning caffeine as they lead to dehydration.

Lunch and dinner

It is better to eat carbohydrate-rich food and whole grains. They are easy to digest and keep you energetic throughout the activity.

Dry fruits

Yes, you can munch dry fruits whenever you feel low. They will not only lift your mood, but will supply you with energy. They are easy to carry as well.  Keep a check on the quantity as they are caloric in nature.

No non-vegetarian food

You must avoid non-vegetarian food while you are hiking. You can opt for egg instead as they will prevent sore muscles.

No energy bars

Chocolates and energy bars are instant energy suppliers; however, they must be avoided. They will supply you energy as they have sugar as a major ingredient. You will witness a drop in energy level within few hours. You will be hungry all over again. Sugar syrups are equally not good for health. Hence, stay away from it.

Water

Yes, you need to remain hydrated. Drink 4-5 liters of water throughout the day. You need to prevent muscle cramps and remain hydrated, hence water is essential. The oxygen levels are low at higher altitudes. Water carries oxygen; hence the body will not be deprived of oxygen.

No alcohol

You might be tempted to consume alcohol once you are at the hilltop. Remember, your journey isn’t over. You have to climb down after you trek. Do not drink alcohol before you start your trek as well as during the trek. Alcohol leads to dehydration.
